NK cells originate from the lymphoid progenitors, however, these cells function as the innate arm component. NK cells induce apoptosis in the infected and cancerous cells. NK cells secret perforins and granzymes for this purpose. NK cells are activated by IL-12 from the macrophages and IFN alpha and beta from the infected cells.
